The British overseas territories citizens (BOTC), British Nationals (Overseas) (BNO), British Overseas citizens (BOC) and British subjects can apply to register as British Citizens if they meet the requirements of Section 4(2) of BNA 1981. Applications under s.4(2) should normally be made on Form B(OTA).
Eligibility Requirements
Adults or minors, who are British overseas territories citizens, British Nationals (Overseas), British Overseas citizens, British subjects under the 1981 Act or British protected persons are entitled to registration as British citizens under s.4(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981 if they were:
- in the United Kingdom at the beginning of the period of 5 years ending with the date of application; or
- settled in the United Kingdom immediately before 1 January 1983; and
- not absent from the United Kingdom for more than 450 days in the 5 year period ending with the date of application; and
- not absent from the United Kingdom for more than 90 days in the period of 12 months ending with the date of application; and
- not on the date of application subject under the immigration laws to any restriction on their stay in the United Kingdom; and
- not subject under the immigration laws to any restriction on their stay in the United Kingdom in the 12 months immediately before
the date of application; and - not at any time in the 5 years ending with the date of application in the United Kingdom in breach of the immigration laws;
- (if aged 10 or over on the date of application, this being a date on or after 4 December 2006) the Secretary of State is satisfied that they are of good character.

Unless your application is very complicated, our fees for an application for registration as a British Citizen are given in the fee table below:

The agreed fixed fee will depend on the complexity of your registration application and the volume of casework involved in the application. In addition to our fixed fee for registration application, the applicant will also have to pay the Home office UKVI fees for the registration application.
