Who Can Apply as a Dependant?

The family members of a Turkish ECAA Businessperson visa holder can apply as a dependant to join or remain with the main applicant in the UK. To qualify, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria and provide sufficient evidence of their relationship and circumstances.

Your Partner

An applicant may apply as a dependant partner if they fall into one of the following categories:

  • A spouse, civil partner, or unmarried partner of the Turkish ECAA Businessperson; and
  • The relationship is genuine and subsisting at the time of application.

To satisfy the requirements, you must be able to demonstrate one of the following:

  • You are married or in a civil partnership recognised in the UK;
  • You have lived together in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least 2 years; or
  • You have been in a committed relationship for at least 2 years but are unable to live together due to compelling reasons (such as work, study commitments, or cultural norms).

Non-Cohabiting Partner

Where the couple is not cohabiting, evidence must be provided to show that the relationship is ongoing and committed. This may include:

  • Proof of regular communication (e.g., call logs, chat records),
  • Financial support between partners,
  • Joint care for any children,
  • Evidence of shared experiences (e.g., travel, events, family gatherings).

Your Children

A child may apply as a dependant if they meet the following requirements:

  • They are under the age of 21 (including children born in the UK during the visa holder’s stay), or
  • They are over 21 but already in the UK as a dependant, and
  • They are not married, not in a civil partnership, and do not have children of their own,
  • They are financially dependent on the Turkish ECAA Businessperson, and
  • They normally live with the main applicant, unless they are in full-time education (e.g., boarding school, college, or university).

Supporting documents should be provided to establish the child’s dependency and living arrangements, which includes:

  • Bank or credit card statements,

How to Apply

Dependants of Turkish ECAA Businessperson visa holders can submit their applications either from within the UK or from abroad, depending on their current location and immigration status. The application process is carried out online and includes identity verification through biometric enrolment.

Apply from Inside the UK (Extension Applications)

Partners or children who are already in the UK can apply to extend their dependant visa. This can be done in one of two ways:

  • The dependant can be included in the main applicant’s visa extension, or
  • They can apply separately as an individual dependant.

Submitting the Application

  • If the applicant is your partner, they must complete the relevant online form for partners.
  • For a child dependant, a separate online application must be submitted for each child.

Applicants will need to provide the Global Web Form (GWF) or Unique Application Number (UAN) associated with the main applicant’s case. This reference can be found in emails or correspondence received from the Home Office.

Verifying Identity

As part of the process, your partner and children must confirm their identity using one of the following methods:

  • By using the UK Immigration: ID Check app to scan their identity document and log into their UKVI account; or
  • By attending an in-person appointment at a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) centre to provide fingerprints and a photograph.

Instructions on which method to use will be provided during the online application process.

Apply from Outside the UK

Children or dependants who are outside the UK can apply to enter the UK as dependants of a Turkish ECAA Businessperson. This includes children of the main applicant or their partner. If you are already in the UK and wish for your child to join you, they must apply online as a dependant before travelling.

Verifying Identity

Applicants applying from overseas will also need to confirm their identity through one of the following options:

  • Using the UK Immigration: ID Check app (if eligible); or
  • Attending a visa application centre in their country of residence to have their biometric information (fingerprints and photograph) collected.

Applicants will be informed during the process which option applies to them based on their nationality and document type.

Application Process

The application process of applying as a dependant of a Turkish ECAA Businessperson involves the following key steps:

  • Complete the appropriate online application form
Submit the correct form based on your relationship to the main visa holder.
  • Prepare and upload supporting documents
Ensure all required documents are ready and meet the Home Office standards.
  • Pay any applicable service or biometric fees
While there is no application fee under this route, certain service charges may apply.
  • Attend biometric enrolment
Applicants will need to provide biometric information (fingerprints and photo).
  • Await a decision
Most applications are processed within six months, though some may be decided sooner.

Rights of Dependants in the UK

Dependants of Turkish ECAA Businessperson visa holders benefit from a wide range of rights that enable them to live, work, and study in the UK alongside their family member.

What Dependants Are Allowed to Do

Dependants holding a valid visa under this route may:

  • Take up employment, including full-time and part-time roles, self-employment, or voluntary work across most sectors
  • Pursue education at all levels, from primary and secondary school to college and university
  • Access healthcare services provided by the NHS, subject to any applicable conditions or exemptions from the Immigration Health Surcharge
  • Enter and leave the UK freely during the validity of their visa, as long as they maintain their immigration status

What Dependants Are Not Permitted to Do

Despite these broad rights, there are some restrictions placed on dependants, including:

  • No access to public funds – This includes most welfare benefits such as Universal Credit, housing benefit, and child tax credit
  • No work as a professional sportsperson or coach, unless they obtain specific permission to do so
  • No travel outside the UK during the processing of an immigration application (e.g. visa extension or ILR), as this may lead to automatic withdrawal of the application
